(Okay, technically Westfield, Indiana. Whatever.)
The Local Eatery and Pub is a casual restaurant just north of Indianapolis that focuses on sourcing local ingredients. We stopped by as we were passing through the area to visit family, and WOW. I am glad we did.
Their focus on local, sustainable, organic ingredients appeals to my worldview and environmental ethics. (Our server mentioned that they were currently sourcing 80-90% of their ingredients locally, and were shooting for 100% within a couple months.) But perhaps even more importantly, their food tasted amazing.
Okay, I use superlatives about food a lot. But our dinner at The Local was definitely in my top five. Ever.
Charlie was a little skeptical at first when I told him we were going to go to a locavore restaurant, but we were both impressed by their simple but comfortable decor, and ultimately by the incredible flavours of their dishes. The ingredients weren’t exotic things that you’ve never heard of. They were basic foods, prepared very very well.
- Baked goat cheese with roasted garlic and herbs and roasted bread
- Locally brewed beers (served in pint canning jars, how awesome is that!)
- Mint and basil pesto-marinated lamb kabobs over mint and pepper couscous with tomato relish
- Brownie + honey cheesecake with raspberry reduction
