I had to laugh when I went to put this bag of dried chickpeas away and noticed the disclaimer on the back. Just in case you don’t know where your beans come from, the bean company lets you in on their little secret.

Beans are a natural agricultural product.

Isn’t it amazing that we live in a world where we have to be reminded that the majority of our food grows out of the soil?

It is good, though, to be reminded to rinse and sort your beans. I always do, but always wonder how effective I’m being since any non-bean object that would be in the bag is in there because it looks just like a bean. I have found an occasional teeny pebble in with our lentils. Not surprisingly, it looked just like a lentil.

This time, though, was different. This time I found a rock. A chickpea-sized rock. That would be no fun to chomp down on.

Thank you, bean company, for reminding me to sort my beans.
