Blueberry banana smoothieBlueberry banana smoothie

I am training for the Dallas White Rock half marathon on December 5. This will be my first in Dallas, but my fifth half marathon overall. I’ve heard some really great things about Dallas White Rock (and really, it’s hard to beat bands every mile of the course), so the girls that I run with and I are looking forward to it.

I was reminded by Runner’s World recently that you really need to get your post-workout recovery meal in within 30 minutes of finishing. This is tough to do, especially after a long run, when your appetite is depressed and eating is the last thing you feel like doing. Their solution: smoothies.

This resonated with me a) because I’m trying to be more conscious about my recovery meals and b) who doesn’t love smoothies?

So after our last long run I came home and threw plain non-fat organic yogurt, 1% milk, a banana, frozen blueberries and milled flax seed in the blender. I’ve made a few smoothies in my day, but man. This one was the best. I was surprised that even though the yogurt wasn’t sweetened, the smoothie didn’t need any added sweeteners. Sweet!

I want to try RW’s Crunchy Coffee Fix smoothie next. Do you have any favourites?

(P.S. If you’re a fellow runner, look me up on dailymile!)

Annette! We have to meet up when you’re in Dallas! We’re only 5 or so miles from White Rock, and even less from Fair Park! I wish I could say I’m running the 1/2 too, but alas, I’m not a runner. Maybe I could walk it? I’ve thought about it a thousand times. Perhaps this is the year. But seriously – I’d love to meet you! – Carrie
BTW – I’m about to make those golden carrot muffins – will report back with my results!

You could definitely walk it! You should do it! The half is 93% full, though, so if you think you might do it, be quick about registering!
